CENSODEV is a Grass-roots, Network, alliance and membership-based Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that works with smallholder farmers, Trade/business Associations in communities in northern Ghana (Northern, Upper East and West regions). Its work is aimed at promoting community-led improvements into local skill sets for sustainable employment, food security and diversified livelihood strategies. It has been in this field since 2004.
CENSODEV was incorporated under the companies’ code of Ghana, 1963 (Act 179) as a nonprofit development organization in August 2010. The organization has its office located in Navrongo, the capital of the Kassena-Nankana Municipal and working through Community Based Volunteer Mentors (CBVM) in 16 MDAs in Northern, Upper East and West Regions.
Over the years it is involved in providing social services aimed at promoting community-led improvements to indigenous knowledge to enhance skills for sustainable employment, food security and also to diversify income generating potential of communities to possibly contribute to poverty reduction especially in Northern Ghana.
However, mobilizing resources for the realizing this goal was almost impossible. It was as a result of this, assistance was sort from the Senior Expert Service (SES) from Germany and a consultant was detailed to the Organization in November 2015. The consultant helped review CENSODEV’s activities, incorporating business services as a critical component of its activities. As a result, funding was received funding from SHARE to carry out an entrepreneurial skills development program for small and medium scale entrepreneurs (SMEs) for a two year period.
